LIBERA PRIMA
A UNIQUE DOMAIN IN THE FAMOUS PRIORAT REGION
The Priorat region, located in Catalonia, is one of the most prestigious in Spain.
It benefits from a unique terroir composed of slate soils and steep terraces. The Mediterranean climate contributes to producing high-quality grapes, especially varieties such as Grenache and Carignan.
The Montsant appellation, which surrounds Priorat, is recognized for its distinctive, expressive, and balanced wines and enjoys an excellent international reputation.
This is where Beatriz Otero decided to settle 7 years ago to create Libera Prima.
My Story
I am Beatriz Otero, a professional in the automotive industry and a producer of micro-cuvées in Priorat, in the Montsant appellation. In 2016, I fell in love with this small vineyard consisting of old Carignan vines over 40 years old. This is how the Libera Prima project was born, an ode to femininity, where each of my cuvées expresses my passion for the terroir and wine.
My Estate
Libera Prima covers an area of 7 hectares at El Mas del Serraller, southwest of the Priorat region. The hot climate, influenced by the mountains, the Ebro River, and the Mediterranean winds, is ideal for the ripening of grapes. The terroir is varied, with limestone and red clay soils. The old Carignan vines produce a concentrated and very fine wine in limited quantities.
My Wines
Libera Prima wines will introduce you to the identity of Carignan, a native variety of Montsant. My wines are produced from old Carignan vines, with methods respectful of the terroir. Their intense color, rich aromas, and rounded tannins make them wines of character and great uniqueness. Aging in French oak barrels varies from 12 to 24 months depending on the vintage.

MY PROJECT
Working to preserve Carignan, a historic variety of the Priorat region.
Vine Plantation
Budget: €15,000
3 years ago, I began the process of saving and replanting Carignan vines, the variety native to the Montsant region.
To give these new plantings the best chance of taking root, a lot of work has to be done in the first year: soil analysis to determine the nutrients needed, cleaning and preparing the land by removing the root remains of the old vines, fertilising the soil, buying rootstocks, buying and installing a drip irrigation system, pruning and special treatments against pests and diseases.
40-Year-Old Vines maintenance
Budget: €10,000
The old Carignan vines are the richness of my terroir and require a high level of care and attention to protect them. It is very important that the terroir is well cared for with the required levels of nutrients, preventive treatments with natural products and a timely response to pests and diseases that may appear during the year. Winter pruning and green pruning are key moments and it is very important to carry them out by hand with great care and attention. Harvesting is also done by hand, ensuring that the grapes enter the winery in a perfect state of ripeness.
Redefinition of the brand image and development of e-commerce
Budget: €5,000
With an extra €5,000, I'll be able to invest in marketing, communication and the development of my e-commerce site, so that Libera Prima can be known by all wine lovers and easily delivered to their homes throughout Europe.
