CHÂTEAU MONTPLAISIR :

A DYNAMIC TEAM AND A MOSAIC OF TERROIRS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FINE AND EXPRESSIVE WINES.

A dynamic team

The family :

In this wine-making adventure, I am lucky to be able to count on my children, all present at different times of the vineyard exploitation, wine-making and marketing processes. Damien, Marion and Violaine help out with grape harvesting, bottling and assist me with wine fairs.

Since 2017, my wife is also dedicated to this life project, specifically with accommodation and wine tourism. She is attending WSET Level 3 (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) training in order to organise tastings and wine events on the property.

Friends involved in the life of Château Montplaisir provide precious advice :

• Emmanuel Gagnepain is the consulting oenologist of Château MontPlaisir. Emmanuel graduated from the « Institut Universitaire de la vigne et du vin ». He is of Burgundy origin but has gained experience in the Rhone Valley and Corsica where he advises over sixty Domaines.

• Pascal Piednoir is a shareholder and a member of Château MontPlaisir's consulting team. Several times French Blind Tasting Vice-Champion and Finalist of the Blind Tasting European Competition in 2014, Pascal is a wine merchant and teaches wine tasting.

• Pierre Folliet is a member of Château MontPlaisir's consulting team. Pierre is an oenologist and a winemaker. He is the owner of Domaine la Destinée, located in the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation.

• Jean-Pierre Chebassier is a shareholder and a member of Château MontPlaisir's consulting team. Jean-Pierre is a visual artist, publicist and epicurean! He advises on content and style.

A wide variety of soils

At 500 meters above sea level, on the Vinsobres plateau, rolled pebbles store the heat during the day, and keep the old Grenache, Syrah and Carignan vines warm at night, thus gently participating in their slow ripening.

The soil being well-drained, it forces the vines to develop deep roots in order to draw resources from the subsoil. The Mistral wind, often blowing strongly, dries the soil, but also protects the vines from fungal diseases throughout the season.

These ideal natural conditions are conducive to Organic Farming methods with very few treatments.

The plots of Château MontPlaisir each have their own identity.

• A plot planted in 1945 with Grenache and Carignan, grown in “espaliers” to take steep slopes into account.
• Another planted with fifty-year-old Syrah, dominating the top of a hill.
• A third of Grenache and Mourvèdre, oriented northwest, surrounded by woods, less sensitive to the exposure of the sun.
• Parcelles with Viognier and Marsanne, more adapted to sandy soils.

Wines with Character

All these terroirs constitute the peculiarity of Château MontPlaisir, they bring depth in flavour and texture to the grape varieties and transmit their personality to the wines: expressive, elegant and complex wines, composed of a mosaic of identities from each of the plots.
