THE ESTATE

Jean-Baptiste Duquesne and David Poutays' creative inspiration

I bought the estate in 2016 after selling my company (recipe website 750g.com) to a big French media company.

The plan was to take over a property in the Graves to develop great wines, organic and biodynamic, respectful of the earth. Wines that we can be proud of. Wines distributed to individuals or in traditional networks, restaurants and engaged wine sellers.

From the beginning I trusted David Poutays to run the estate. He is the owner of Clos de Mounissens and a biodynamic winemaker since 2003. His experience is indispensable to the estate and allowed us to start the conversion to organic production from the first year.

Beautiful prospects on the horizon

The area has not been spared by the ever-changing weather. The frost in 2017 destroyed 90% of the harvest. Then, hail in 2018 destroyed the entire crop.

We look forward to the 2019 harvest to offer a full range of wines, both wines made in the purest Bordeaux tradition, and also more original, authentic and artisanal cuvées.

Today, however, we are selling the few bottles we produced in 2017, and we receive excellent feedback from restaurants and wine merchants who already trust us.

Some restaurants we work with are indicated on the map at right.
For more informations about our partners, please visit Château Cazebonne's website.

An ambitous project of replanting ancient grape varieties

The estate is also replanting all the grape varieties that made up the history of Bordeaux wines. 20 grape varieties will be replanted.

Mancin, Pardotte, Castets, Sauvignonasse, Penouille, Bouchalès ... will once again flourish after a century of being forgotten. And there will be nice surprises in our bottles during the coming years!

For example, in the 19th century, a grape variety may have been abandoned because it never ripened, however with the effects of global warming, it will be perfectly adapted to today’s climate.

In 2022, the property will have more than 45 hectares in production with over 25 grape varieties planted in total.

The range of wines

From ancient grape varieties to wines ready to enjoy with friends, discover the richness of Château Cazebonne's great wines:

ENTRE AMIS / GRAVES

Whether it is white, red, rosé or sparkling, we have the unique ambition to offer you here an enjoyable wine, to drink with friends (hence "Entre Amis") without waiting for a special occasion. Quite simply a nice drink!

LE GRAND VIN / GRAVES

In the pure Bordeaux tradition, the “Grand Vin” offers a great Bordeaux wine, aged in oak barrels. However, we do not want the wood to overpower, we will make sure the fruitiness still dominates.

PARCELLAIRE / GRAVES
Our goal with these creative wines is to offer single-block “Parcellaire” Cuvées in authentic styles which will never leave you indifferent. We will always specify on the label how the wine is made and what was our intention.

ANTAN / VIN DE FRANCE WINE

Mancin, Castets, Bouchalès, Saint-Macaire, Petit Péjac ... These names might not mean anything to you yet, but they are local varieties that are replanted here to reveal tastes forgotten for over a century in some cases. In total, more than 25 grape varieties that you will be pleased to discover.
